On November 3rd, 2016, the International Intelligence Unit of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (IIU-FGV) held a lecture on "Security Environments in East Asia" with the Director General of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, Professor Shingo Yamagami, at the headquarters of FGV, in Rio de Janeiro. The professor's visit to Brazil was promoted by the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan.
Graduated in Law from the University of Tokyo, Yamagami held the position of ambassador with specialization in Policy Planning and International Security Policy. Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, he served as Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau.
The lecture was given in English, and received several visitors including military authorities.
