During the second half of 2014, The IIU held two seminars focusing on sustainable development and the environment. The first ("Post-2015: reality or rhetoric?"), held on September 16, opened with a speech by Professor Renato Flôres (FGV/IIU), on the collaboration between FGV and ASEAN; and that of the then Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil, Sudaryomo Hartosudarmo, on the United Nations High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons for Post-2015.

After the opening, the following were discussed: "Means of Implementation: the public policy of sustainable development"; in the first panel, which was mediated by Joseph Leahy (Financial Times), Israel Klabin (IBDS), Christian Stoffaës (FGV/IIU International Representantative in France), Izabella Teixeira (MMA) and Oded Grajew (Instituto Ethos/Movimento Nossa São Paulo) participated.

The second panel, entitled: "Focus on key policies: subsidy policy and green GDP"; it was mediated by Christian Stoffaës, and debated by Vania Somavila (Vale), Armando Tripodi (Petrobras), Rui Gonçalves (MMA) and Marcelo Furtado (Greenpeace).

The third and final panel of the day had as its theme: "Focus on key policies: technology transfer and renewable energies"; with the mediation of Aron Belinky (GVces), and with the presence of Célio Bermann (USP), Felix Dante (KAS), José Aroudo Mota (IPEA) and Marina Grossi (WBCSD).

The second seminar, held on October 21, entitled: "Brazilian Energy Policy for the Post-2015 and the Fight against Climate Change", followed a similar line of thought, this time thinking of Brazil as an actor in sustainability. The seminar was created by the IIU in partnership with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rio de Janeiro, with sponsorship from the Klimafonds des Auswärtigen Amts, of the German government.

The event began with the first panel: "How to Move from Aspirational Goals to Action"; moderated by Professor Renato Flôres, and with the participation of Virgílio Viana (Sustainable Amazonas Foundation), Jorge Chediek (Resident Coordinator – UN in Brazil), Christian Christian Stoffaës (World Council for Sustainable Electrification) and Haroldo Mattos de Lemos (President – Brazil UNEP Institute). This was followed by a special conversation on the German drive for a sustainable future, between the then Consul General of Germany Harald Klein, and R. Andreas Kraemer of the Ecologic Institute.

The second panel was held, with the theme: "The 'Phasing Out' of Energy Sources with High Carbon Content"; It was mediated by Luiz Fernando Scheibe (UFSC) and had the participation of Jean-Paul Prates (CERNE), Gerhard M. Haase (Wintershall), Ricardo Baitelo (Climate and Energy Campaign – Greenpeace) and Jürgen Beigel (Director – GIZ Energy Program for Brazil).

Finally, the last panel, on: "The Development of Advanced Alternative Energies"; with the mediation of Gustavo Pimentel (Director - SITAWI - Finanças do Bem), and with the contribution of Aron Belinky (FGV - Gvces), Antônio Carlos Tovar (Department of Alternative Sources - BNDES), Sergio Boanada (President - Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro) and Felix Dane (KAS).
