The Ambassador of Japan to Brazil spoke on the topic of security and defense in Asia, framing the possible "flashpoints" that draw attention. Questions such as: North Korea's nuclear warhead and missile program, and the Korean peninsula as a whole, Chinese development in the South China Sea, competing with the US and its allies – especially Japan – in addition to addressing the Taiwan issue, always in vogue in regional discussions.

The "Security Environments in East Asia" event took place on November 3, 2016, at FGV, in a partnership between The IIU and the Consulate General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro.
